Could you be a foster carer?

If you’ve ever wondered about becoming a foster carer, you can have all your questions answered at a free information session in Dalby on Wednesday, November 14.

Anglicare Foster and Kinship Care Practitioner, Annette McGuinn, said there was an urgent need throughout the Dalby area for more carers.

“Having more local foster carers means we can keep more of our local kids in Dalby and connected to their community, friends and families,” Ms McGuinn said.

“Taking a child into your home and providing support and nurturing their interests is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

“We’re seeing a real need for more foster carers in Dalby, so if you’ve ever wondered about getting involved, now is a good to time to find out more.”

Ms McGuinn said Anglicare was seeking potential carers from a diverse range of backgrounds.

“There is no one ‘type’ of foster carer. They come from many walks of life and can be single, married, a same sex or de facto couple, retired, working full-time or part-time,” she said.

“What’s most important is that they can provide a positive, nurturing and supportive environment.

“Anglicare has been supporting Queensland foster carers for more than 25 years and we can help you through the process of becoming a carer, as well as providing ongoing support and guidance.”

Two free information sessions will be held at the Myall Community Network Centre, 28 Nicholson Street, Dalby on Wednesday November 14. Session one runs from 10am to 12noon, while session two runs from 6pm to 8pm.
